This thesis examines the persistence of the figure of Felice Maniero and his criminal organization, the so-called Mala del Brenta, in the context of contemporary Veneto, with particular attention to the concepts of fear, consent, and collective memory. The aim of the research is to understand how a formally dismantled organization continues to exert a symbolic, cultural, and narrative influence on the territory and on the social imaginary. Through an interdisciplinary approach that integrates tools from political science, the sociology of deviance, and memory studies, the thesis is based on the analysis of bibliographical sources, journalistic investigations, interviews, documentaries, and cinematic productions dedicated to the Mala del Brenta and its leader. Particular emphasis is placed on the role of the media in the construction and reproduction of the criminal myth, as well as on the progressive normalization of the mafia phenomenon in the local context. A further part of the research is devoted to the procedural and judicial dimension, analyzing the main criminal trials involving Maniero and the members of the organization, as well as his path of collaboration with the justice system. The analysis of trials and court rulings makes it possible to highlight the relationship between criminal repression, institutional response, and public perception of the criminal phenomenon, shedding light on the ambiguities and tensions between justice, memory, and media representation. The results show how the combination of violence, social consent, media narratives, and judicial events has contributed to the formation of an ambivalent collective memory, in which the figure of Maniero oscillates between moral condemnation and fascination. Finally, the research highlights how this persistence represents a critical issue for the full affirmation of a culture of legality in contemporary Veneto.
