Objective: The aim the study presented here was to investigate over the period of 12 months the pre-symptomatic state of AD in a population of elderly adults based in southern Brazil to investigate whether SMC has a predictive relation with objective memory impairment, the general cognitive profile, executive functioning, and overall daily functionality our subjects. Methods: A total of 171 subjects were included MCI AD (n = 115) and controls (n = 56), those of which non-SMC (n = 76) and SMC (n = 63). The two-sessions assessments were performed either at Service for Psychological Assistance and Research in Psychology (Serviço de Atendimento e Pesquisa em Psicologia - SAAP) at PUCRS and Centre for Clinic Research (Centro de Pesquisa Clínica – CPC) of Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre (HCPA). Two follow-up assessments within 12-months interval were the basis for the analyses. Results: our results suggest that the factor subjective memory complaint (SMC) has a relation with experience memory impairment and overall daily living functionality verified by object neuropsychological testing, but not in the general cognitive and executive functioning. Conclusions: Our exploratory analysis showed that our population of elderly adults based in Porto Alegre, Brazil, is at a high risk of progressing to amnestic Mild Cognitive Impairment (a-MCI) with deficits on daily living functionality if we adopt the SCD-Initiative criteria for pre-MCI.
