The primary aim of this work is to present a comprehensive overview of the now mature and established solid-state Friction Stir Welding (FSW) process, focusing on the fatigue life of the joints and attempting to bridge the gaps in current standards, which fail to distinguish between FSW and traditional arc welding. Through the study and review of scientific articles from authoritative and qualified sources, information, data, and fatigue curves were collected to evaluate the behavior of FSW joints across various materials. This work is divided into six chapters: the first provides a general introduction to FSW technology, covering its history, applications, and process parameters; the second chapter presents a direct comparison between traditional arc welding and FSW from the perspective of the approach to studying fatigue life. In the third, fourth, and fifth chapters, the fatigue behavior of FSW joints was analyzed based on the findings of the gathered studies, focusing on different materials: Steel, Aluminum, and other materials, respectively. Finally, in the last chapter, conclusions are drawn regarding the FSW process and its superiority over arc welding in specific applications.
