Alzheimer’s disease represents one of the most complex and significant challenges in global public health, not only because of its growing prevalence but also due to the profound clinical, social, and economic implications it entails. It is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder and the most common cause of dementia, accounting for about 60–80% of cases among the elderly worldwide. Alzheimer’s is an irreversible disease that affects memory, cognitive functions, behavior, and, in its more advanced stages, also motor skills and the individual’s autonomy.
La malattia di Alzheimer rappresenta una delle sfide più complesse e rilevanti nel panorama della sanità pubblica mondiale, non solo per la sua diffusione crescente ma anche per le profonde implicazioni cliniche, sociali ed economiche che comporta. Si tratta di una patologia neurodegenerativa progressiva, che costituisce la causa più frequente di demenza, interessando circa il 60-80% dei casi tra gli anziani a livello globale. È una malattia irreversibile che colpisce la memoria, le funzioni cognitive, il comportamento e, nelle fasi più avanzate, anche la motricità e l’autonomia della persona.
