The thesis aims to investigate the progressive evolution of the columns into vegetal elements painted in the frescoes starting from the mature II style, following its developments up to the IV style. It examines significant examples found in Rome and Pompeii, and then proposes a reading of the phenomenon.

La tesi si propone di indagare la progressiva vegetalizzazione degli elementi architettonici dipinti negli affrechi a partire dal II stile maturo, seguendone gli sviluppi fino al IV stile. Prende in esame esempi significativi riscontrati a Roma e Pompei, per poi proporre una lettura del fenomeno.
