This study aims to explore the intertextual relationship between Orlando furioso by Ludovico Ariosto and Virgil’s Aeneid. In particular, it focuses on two pairs of characters, concentrating mainly on a specific trait that defines them: the virgines bellatrices Marfisa and Camilla, and the disdainful souls Rodomonte and Turnus. The research adopts a compilative approach and sets out to begin with a terminological overview of intertextual relationships, progressively narrowing its scope to examine Ariosto’s specific attitude toward his dialogue with literary sources. It concludes with targeted observations on the relationship with Virgilian elements and the two characters under consideration.

Abstract
This study aims to explore the intertextual relationship between Orlando furioso by Ludovico Ariosto and Virgil’s Aeneid. In particular, it focuses on two pairs of characters, concentrating mainly on a specific trait that defines them: the virgines bellatrices Marfisa and Camilla, and the disdainful souls Rodomonte and Turnus. The research adopts a compilative approach and sets out to begin with a terminological overview of intertextual relationships, progressively narrowing its scope to examine Ariosto’s specific attitude toward his dialogue with literary sources. It concludes with targeted observations on the relationship with Virgilian elements and the two characters under consideration.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
