Tra realtà e finzione: Niebla e l'inganno di Miguel de Unamuno

This thesis analyses the work of Miguel de Unamuno, author of Niebla (1914). The study aims to explore the oscillation between reality and fiction within the novel. Through an examination of the historical and cultural context of twentieth-century Spain, the research highlights the literary group known as the Generación del ’98, to which the author belongs—a movement that sought to revive national consciousness while engaging with philosophical inquiry. Particular attention is given to Unamuno’s thought, characterized by the tension between faith and reason, as well as by questions of personal identity and free will. Special focus is placed on the nivola, a new literary genre invented by Unamuno, and on the ambiguous figure of Augusto Pérez, a character who embodies the existential crisis of the individual. The analysis shows how the boundaries between reality and fiction progressively blur, ultimately merging the figures of author, character, and reader in the encounter between Unamuno and Pérez, thereby breaking the limits of the fourth dimension. The thesis concludes by examining the role of the reader as a connective element between fiction and reality, demonstrating that Niebla is not merely a novel, but a work that deeply explores human existence and inner complexity.

Questa tesi analizza l'opera di Miguel de Unamuno, autore di Niebla (1914). L'analisi condotta ha l'obbiettivo di esplorare l'oscillazione tra realtà e finzione. La ricerca attraverso lo studio del contesto storico- culturale della spagna del Novecento, mette in risalto il gruppo letterario della Generación de '98, di cui fa parte l'autore; gruppo che emerge e risolleva le coscienze nazionali fino a esplorare il pensiero filosofico unamuiano caratterizzato dalla contrapposizione tra fede e ragione, ma anche identità personale e il libero arbitrio. Particolare attenzione viene data alla nivola, un nuovo genere letterario inventato dall'autore e all'ambigua figura di Augusto Perez, personaggio che rappresenta la crisi esistenziale dell'individuo. Mettendo in risalto come i confini tra realtà e finzione si assottigliano fino a confondere e mescolare le figure dell'autore, personaggio e lettore nell'incontro tra Unamuno e Perez , rompendo così i confini della quarta dimensione. La ricerca si conclude esplorando il ruolo del lettore, il collante che funge da punto di contatto che collega la finzione alla realtà, mostrando di conseguenza come Niebla non sia un semplice romanzo, ma un'opera che esplora l'esistenza degli individui e la loro complessità interiore.
