This thesis examines the career of Michelle Yeoh, her significant contribution to the cinematic entertainment industry and her emergence as a global feminist icon. It explores how Michelle Yeoh’s diverse body of work reflects and reshapes gender dynamics in both Asian and Western cinematic traditions. It begins by creating an overview of the cinematic industry, the history of the industry, analysis of women’s role in movies and how Asian women are depicted in movies. It focuses on her biography analysis and the intersection of her career in the cinematic industry. It also explores her unique attributes and how well she has been able to successfully play her roles in selected movies. The study will also investigate how her career has impacted global cinema, inspired a new generation of female actors, and contributed to a broader understanding of feminism in a transnational context. This thesis aims to contribute to scholarly discussions on gender representation, Asian American studies, and the intersection of cinema and cultural identity. The first part of the thesis provides a critical overview of the historical and contemporary landscape of women in cinema, examining prevalent stereotypes and the ongoing struggle for authentic and nuanced representation. It analyzes how the portrayal of Asian women in film has been historically constrained by limited casting opportunities. This section will also explore the evolution of feminist thought, from second-wave feminism to contemporary intersections with race, class, and sexuality, providing a crucial theoretical framework for understanding Yeoh's impact. The second part of the thesis will delve into Michelle Yeoh's career trajectory, tracing her journey from her early success in Hong Kong action cinema to her global recognition in Hollywood. This section will analyze her key filmography, focusing on pivotal roles that challenged conventional gender roles and shattered stereotypical representations of Asian women. In-depth analyses of films such as "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," "Crazy Rich Asians," and "Everything Everywhere All at Once" will demonstrate how Yeoh's performances have not only entertained audiences but also served as powerful statements of female agency, cultural identity, and the complexities of the human experience.
