This research focuses on John Cabot, an explorer whose notoriety remains relatively limited, particularly among students of history. The study aims to provide a clear and methodologically rigorous introduction to his life, motivations, and the historical context in which he operated. Although his figure is often treated briefly in school textbooks and overshadowed by more prominent explorers such as Christopher Columbus, Cabot’s contribution to the exploration of North America is indisputable. He undertook voyages along the northern coasts, paving the way for future European expansion and significantly contributing to the geographical knowledge of the period. Given the scarcity of sources and the many uncertainties surrounding his biography, this thesis seeks both to clarify little-known aspects of his life and to illuminate those already documented. The research considers not only his navigational ventures but also the social and economic conditions in which Cabot operated, highlighting the difficulties in securing resources, capital, and support for his expeditions. By reconstructing his life from his youth in Venice to his final years, the study presents him as an enterprising and dynamic man, constantly on the move and attentive to cultivating relationships instrumental to his ventures. The analysis examines the famous voyage to the northern coasts, the challenges faced, the landings, and the consequences in Europe, demonstrating how the expedition influenced subsequent geographical, commercial, and political developments. Furthermore, the thesis reflects on Cabot’s posthumous memory, the various names, attributions, and historiographical interpretations associated with him, as well as the remaining uncertainties regarding his death. In conclusion, this research offers a multidimensional perspective on John Cabot, combining biographical narrative and historical analysis to better understand both the explorer and the context of the great explorations of the early sixteenth century.

Abstract
This research focuses on John Cabot, an explorer whose notoriety remains relatively limited, particularly among students of history.
