The following thesis will address the epistemological problem of perception and the role of sense-data, reconstructing its origins and development up to the contemporary debate. Sense-data are understood as empirical objects of which we are directly aware in our perceptual experience, ontologically dependent on perception but distinct from both mental states and external physical objects. Having presented this question, we will present how the problem of perception is relevant through a comparison between realists and idealist positions. We will then move on to an initial elaboration of the theory in the context of modern empiricism, referring to authors such as Locke, Berkeley, and Hume, before focusing on its formulation in early 20th-century analytical philosophy, particularly in the thought of G. E. Moore and Bertrand Russell. Finally, we will outline the main difficulties of the theory, placing its significance within the contemporary debate on perception.

Abstract
Finally, we will outline the main difficulties of the theory, placing its significance within the contemporary debate on perception.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
