UZINA AWAKENING. Urban regeneration in Tirana’s industrial brownfields

Industrial identity was highly significant in communist Albania. This project proposal focuses on a specific location in east Tirana, near Shkoze, formerly known as Ish Uzina e Traktorit. The factory ceased operations in the mid-1990s and has since become a marginalized area with informal settlements. The lack of urban amenities, such as residential infrastructure and green spaces, prompts us to consider priorities in our plan. This thesis aims to address these challenges by revitalizing the area, creating a focal point, formulating strategic actions and designing social and cultural programs. These efforts will not only regenerate Uzina with new functions but also contribute to the overall development of Tirana.
