Background: communication skills are a fundamental component in the training of healtcare professionals, particulary in physiotherapy, where the therapeutic relationship develops through continuous and often prolonged interaction with the patient. The literature highlights how effective communication contributes to improved clinical outcomes, from treatment adherence to patient satisfaction. Purpose: the study aims to design, implement and evaluate a training workshop on healthcare communication for students in the Physiotherapy Degree Course at the University of Padua. The goal is to promote awareness and development of communication skills through active learning methodologies. Materials and methods: the project involved third-year students from the Padua, Venice and Schio and secondo-year students from the Conegliano. The workshop was structured by integrating theoretical content and experential activities, including brainstorming, clinical case discussions, narration of personal experienced, role playing and guided video analysis. Before the workshop, a preliminary questionnaire was administrated, combining the Self-Efficacy Questionnaire (SE-12) with items from the Communication Skills Attitude Scale (CSAS). The aim was to assess student’s perceptions of communication skills and the importance they attach to communication in the healthcare satting. A satisfaction questionnaire administered and analyzed using frequency distributions. Results: the results showed a generally positive perception of their communication skills, particularly with respect to active listening and empathy, while greater difficulties emerged in managing and structuring clinical conversations. Students recognized communication as a central element of physiotherapy practice. The satisfaction questionnaire showed a good level of satisfaction, especially with respect to the active teaching methodologies used. Conclusions: the workshop provided an opportunity for reflection and discussion on the relational aspects of physiotherapy practice, confirming the importance of integrating communication-focused training programs into the university education of healthcare professionals.
