This thesis examines the history and culture of Ukraine in the modern era (16th–18th centuries), with particular focus on its role within the European context. It analyzes the historical background as well as the importance of culture and education in shaping Ukrainian society. A significant part of the study is devoted to key educational and cultural centers, such as Kyiv and the Mohyla Academy, as well as the cities of Lviv and Ostroh, highlighting their role in the development of culture and printing. The thesis also explores the phenomenon of Ukrainian Baroque, analyzing its main features and European influences, while emphasizing its distinctive characteristics in the Ukrainian context. Finally, the study addresses the issue of Ukraine’s cultural heritage, focusing on current challenges related to its preservation and promotion, and underlining its importance in the formation of national identity and the development of tourism.
La presente tesi analizza la storia e la cultura dell’Ucraina nell’età moderna (XVI–XVIII secolo), con particolare attenzione al suo ruolo nello spazio europeo. Il lavoro esamina il contesto storico e il contributo della cultura e dell’istruzione allo sviluppo della società ucraina. Una parte significativa è dedicata ai principali centri educativi e culturali, come Kyiv e l’Accademia Mohyla, nonché alle città di Leopoli e Ostroh, evidenziandone l’importanza come poli di diffusione culturale e della stampa. L’elaborato approfondisce inoltre il fenomeno del Barocco ucraino, analizzandone le caratteristiche e le influenze europee, e mettendo in luce le specificità del contesto ucraino. Infine, il lavoro affronta il tema del patrimonio culturale dell’Ucraina, considerando le sfide attuali legate alla sua conservazione e valorizzazione, e sottolineando il suo ruolo fondamentale nella costruzione dell’identità nazionale e nello sviluppo del turismo.
