This thesis analyses the Hospital School as an educational space at the intersection of care, learning, and pedagogical relationships. Through an interdisciplinary approach, integrating pedagogical, philosophical, psychological, and neurobiological perspectives, it is interpreted as a context of humanisation capable of supporting educational continuity, inclusion, and well-being. In this perspective, it emerges as an educational device oriented towards the reconstruction of meaning and the reactivation of personal agency, recognising the hospitalised child as an active subject of their own journey, not merely as a patient. The research is structured along three main lines: a theoretical and normative analysis within the Italian and European context; a comparison with models from France, Germany, England, and Spain; and a qualitative empirical investigation conducted within the hospital school section operating at the Pediatric Unit of Ca’ Foncello Hospital in Treviso, complemented by a comparison with the hospital school section based at the Pediatric Clinic Unit of the Padova University Hospital. Through semi-structured interviews and field observations, the research explored learning environments, teaching methodologies, relational practices, and coordination with the students' home schools. The findings show that the Hospital School transcends a merely compensatory and instructional function, representing a complex pedagogical environment capable of promoting educational continuity, organisational flexibility, personalised teaching, and emotional support — within an integrated school-healthcare system grounded in a therapeutic-educational alliance. The study ultimately highlights the central role of the educational relationship in the processes of resilience, inclusion, and identity reconstruction among hospitalised students.
