This research examines the effects of online intergroup contact on the perception of groups different from one’s own. Drawing on the Contact Hypothesis, the study investigates how positive and negative contact experiences on social media influence attitudes, behavioral intentions of approach and avoidance, intentions for future contact, and levels of deprovincialization. Specifically, positive contact is expected to promote more favorable attitudes toward the outgroup, increase approach intentions and future contact intentions, and reduce avoidance intentions. Conversely, negative contact is expected to produce opposite effects, increasing avoidance and reducing favorable attitudes and intentions for future contact. The study involves the administration of a self-report questionnaire to adult Italian participants belonging to the majority group, with the aim of further exploring the effects of online intergroup contact toward groups differing in ethnicity, religious beliefs, and social and political orientations.

Abstract
The study involves the administration of a self-report questionnaire to adult Italian participants belonging to the majority group, with the aim of further exploring the effects of online intergroup contact toward groups differing in ethnicity, religious beliefs, and social and political orientations.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
