This thesis addresses the issue of the inadequacy of traditional procurement models, based on transactional logics, especially when applied to the development of highly complex products. In particular, it highlights how the separation between the design and execution phases generates an increase in hidden costs, logistical bottlenecks, and non-conformities. The central issue examined is how procurement can be transformed from a critical element, characterized by inefficiencies and logistical problems, into a strategic lever for the co-creation of competitive advantage. The research adopts a single case study methodology, ensuring its validity through direct interviews, technical reports, and objective Project Management metrics. The project analyzed is “Cabina Vipra”, an extraction and safety cabin for large-format additive manufacturing, developed through the partnership between Fratelli Tamellin S.r.l. and Caracol S.r.l. The study examines the evolution of the project from an initial supply configuration toward a model of Supply Chain Collaboration (SCC) and Early Supplier Involvement (ESI). The results empirically demonstrate how co-design positively affected operational and financial performance. The conscious acceptance of an engineering extra-budget for the preventive resolution of complexities led to an improvement in performance parameters, also thanks to the shared logistical technique known as “Kit by Phase”. The explanation of these findings lies in the validation of the transition from Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) to the adoption of Total Value of Ownership (TVO). Furthermore, the thesis contributes to the managerial literature by identifying a phenomenon of Collaborative Knowledge Exchange. The study concludes by providing managerial implications, useful both for companies aiming to position themselves as value partners and for procurement functions called upon to evolve toward collaborative models.
Il presente lavoro di tesi affronta la problematica dell'inadeguatezza dei modelli di approvvigionamento tradizionali, basati su logiche transazionali, soprattutto quando applicati allo sviluppo di beni ad alta complessità. In particolare, si mette in risalto come la separazione tra la fase di progettazione e di esecuzione generi un aumento dei costi occulti, colli di bottiglia logistici e non conformità. Il problema centrale considerato è come trasformare il procurement da un elemento critico, caratterizzato da inefficienze e problemi logistici, a una leva strategica per la co-creazione del vantaggio competitivo. Nella ricerca è stata adottata una metodologia basata sul singolo caso studio, garantendone la validità attraverso interviste dirette, report tecnici e metriche oggettive di Project Management. Viene sviluppato il progetto “Cabina Vipra”, una cabina di aspirazione e sicurezza per l’additive manufacturing di grande formato, nata dalla partnership tra Fratelli Tamellin S.r.l. e Caracol S.r.l. Viene analizzata l'evoluzione del progetto da una configurazione iniziale di fornitura verso un modello di Supply Chain Collaboration (SCC) ed Early Supplier Involvement (ESI). I risultati dimostrano empiricamente come la coprogettazione abbia cambiato positivamente le performance operative e finanziarie. L'accettazione consapevole di un extra-budget ingegneristico per la risoluzione preventiva delle complessità ha significato un miglioramento dei parametri, anche grazie alla tecnica condivisa della logistica “Kit by Phase”. La spiegazione di tali evidenze è presente nella validazione del passaggio dal Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) all'adozione del Total Value of Ownership (TVO). Inoltre, il lavoro offre un contributo alla letteratura manageriale identificando un fenomeno di Collaborative Knowledge Exchange. Lo studio si conclude fornendo delle implicazioni manageriali, utili sia per le imprese che intendono posizionarsi come partner di valore, sia per le funzioni acquisti chiamate a evolvere verso modelli collaborativi.
