Vibronic coupling phenomena arise from the interactions of energetically close-lying adiabatic electronic states, mediated by nuclear vibrations. The investigation of these nonadiabatic effects requires going beyond the Born-Oppenheimer approximation and thus the employment of a suitable model Hamiltonian. In this work, the linear vibronic coupling Hamiltonian (LVC) was expressed in terms of normal-mode coordinates within a basis of diabatic states. The LVC model introduces two parameters regarding the vibronic interactions between electronic states. As matrix elements, these quantities can be analyzed through the lens of the symmetry selection rules. In particular, k_iq describes the displacement of the potential minimum of the excited state i along mode q relative to the ground state geometry. Notably, k_iq turns out to be nonzero only for totally symmetric vibrational modes. The values of k^2 were investigated for a set of organic chromophores belonging to different point groups. The results reveal a connection with the symmetry of the molecule, which once again emerges as a powerful tool for predicting and simplifying the quantum-mechanical description of molecular systems.

Abstract
The results reveal a connection with the symmetry of the molecule, which once again emerges as a powerful tool for predicting and simplifying the quantum-mechanical description of molecular systems.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
