Plant biodiversity represents a fundamental element for the functioning of ecosystems and the conservation of ecological balance; however, it is currently severely threatened by habitat fragmentation, environmental changes, and anthropogenic activities. In this context, the protection of rare and vulnerable species is of particular importance also at the local scale. This thesis investigates the presence of Osmunda regalis in the Colli Euganei, with particular reference to the Monte Venda and Monte Vendevolo areas. To this end, two field surveys were carried out in the Laghizzolo del Venda area, during which the existing specimens of this species were observed and described, taking into account the ecological conditions of the site and the possible factors limiting its distribution within the Euganean territory. In addition, a herbarium specimen was collected for preservation at the Botanical Garden of the University of Padua. At the same time, historical herbaria were consulted in order to reconstruct the historical distribution of the species and compare it with its current distribution. The results highlight the extremely localized presence of Osmunda regalis in the Colli Euganei and show how environmental and anthropogenic factors, such as hydrological alterations, plant competition, and human disturbance, may negatively affect its in situ conservation. The study emphasizes the importance of floristic monitoring and the conservation of residual wetland habitats, highlighting the value of herbarium collections and field investigations for the protection of local plant biodiversity.

Abstract
The study emphasizes the importance of floristic monitoring and the conservation of residual wetland habitats, highlighting the value of herbarium collections and field investigations for the protection of local plant biodiversity.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
