Down syndrome, more accurately referred to as Trisomy 21, is a chromosomal anomaly caused by the presence of a third copy (or a portion) of chromosome 21. It is commonly abbreviated as DS, from the English acronym Down syndrome. It is the most common chromosomal abnormality in humans, typically associated with delays in cognitive ability and physical growth, as well as a specific set of facial characteristics. Individuals with Down syndrome present motor and sensory peculiarities that can influence the learning and execution of complex movements: muscle hypotonia, ligamentous laxity, often reduced reaction times and sensory integration, and decreased postural stability in both static and dynamic conditions (Brugnaro, 2022; Picciotti, 2024). The purpose of this thesis is to identify the various tactics and strategies implemented by coaches to enable these individuals to practice pole vaulting, the most technically complex discipline in track and field. In this context, coaches—without disregarding the biomechanics of the jump—must seek a precise adaptation of the vault based on the athlete's specific characteristics. In short, since every athlete has different potential, the goal is to design a tailor-made technical movement that adapts to the personal skills of the young people and adults engaging in this discipline. The unique aspect of this process is that it is exactly the same approach used at the elite level with professional athletes. We must not forget that for any sportsperson, the fundamental characteristics are motivation and fun; the latter becomes a vital component for this specific group of athletes. The experiential section describes the cases of Raffaele and Giacomo, a 26-year-old and a 33-year-old who are part of the Gruppo Asta Padova within the "Dadi Volanti" section. The name Dadi Volanti refers to the Down Dadi association of Padua, to which Raffaele and Giacomo belong and with which this interesting collaboration was established.
