Italy's ecclesiastical heritage constitutes a fundamental component of the country's historic built environment, yet it is also among the building categories most vulnerable to seismic events. Earthquakes over recent decades have shown that the seismic response of churches is governed by the activation of localized collapse mechanisms in specific structural portions, known as macroelements, whose identification is an essential prerequisite for any vulnerability assessment. This work aims to characterize the typology of a sample of ecclesiastical buildings in the Verona area and to assess their seismic vulnerability through the application of two distinct methodologies. The survey campaign involved on-site inspections and the review of technical-historical documentation provided by the diocese, in order to complete two complementary survey forms: the CARTIS-Chiese form, aimed at the systematic collection of typological and constructional characteristics useful for statistical analyses and large-scale typological mapping, and the Scheda Chiese di II livello Survey Form, which allows the damage mechanisms activatable for each macroelement to be identified and the corresponding vulnerability index to be quantified based on the vulnerabilities detected and the seismic strengthening measures present. The vulnerability indices of the churches in the sample were calculated using two methods: the one proposed in the Scheda Chiese di II livello Survey Form manual, and the one proposed by Follador (2023), a simplified method based on typological parameters characteristic of ecclesiastical buildings. The corresponding vulnerability and fragility curves were then derived from these indices. Comparing the results obtained from the two methodologies makes it possible to evaluate their consistency and their applicability at the urban scale, contributing to the development of rapid assessment tools for the seismic risk evaluation of religious heritage. The fragility models obtained were further applied through a risk assessment platform to produce expected damage maps, which were then compared with equivalent maps based on national-scale vulnerability models.

Abstract
The fragility models obtained were further applied through a risk assessment platform to produce expected damage maps, which were then compared with equivalent maps based on national-scale vulnerability models.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
