This thesis develops the design of a bioclimatic residential complex in the community of Serrinha, in Florianópolis, Brazil. Starting from direct experience in the area, the work analyses the social, urban and environmental issues of the Brazilian context, with particular attention to processes of informal urbanisation, the lack of community services and the need for new forms of housing. The project is located at the foot of Morro da Cruz, in the Trindade neighbourhood, within a fragile yet strategic area for connecting the Serrinha community, the urban centre and the university district. The intervention proposes a multifunctional system capable of integrating housing, collective services and public space, transforming the site into a place for meeting, movement and community life. The square, interpreted as a contemporary forum, becomes the heart of the project and the tool through which identity, inclusion and urban quality are strengthened. The architectural proposal takes the humid subtropical climate of Florianópolis as a design parameter. Solar, wind and local climatic analyses guide the adoption of passive strategies, including natural ventilation, solar shading devices, overhangs, cobogó elements, housing orientation and the use of intermediate spaces. The aim is to define a sustainable, accessible housing model rooted in its context, capable of combining environmental comfort, quality of urban space and the social responsibility of architecture.
La presente tesi sviluppa il progetto di un complesso residenziale bioclimatico nella comunità della Serrinha, a Florianópolis, Brasile. A partire dall’esperienza diretta sul territorio, il lavoro analizza le criticità sociali, urbane e ambientali del contesto brasiliano, con particolare attenzione ai processi di urbanizzazione irregolare, alla carenza di servizi comunitari e alla necessità di nuove forme dell’abitare. Il progetto si inserisce ai piedi del Morro da Cruz, nel barrio Trindade, in un’area fragile ma strategica per la connessione tra la comunità della Serrinha, il centro urbano e la zona universitaria. L’intervento propone un sistema multifunzionale capace di integrare residenza, servizi collettivi e spazio pubblico, trasformando il lotto in un luogo di incontro, attraversamento e vita comunitaria. La piazza, interpretata come foro contemporaneo, diventa il cuore del progetto e lo strumento attraverso cui rafforzare identità, inclusione e qualità urbana. La proposta architettonica assume il clima subtropicale umido di Florianópolis come dato progettuale. Le analisi solari, dei venti e delle condizioni climatiche locali, guidano l’adozione di strategie passive, tra cui ventilazione naturale, schermature solari, aggetti, cobogó, orientamento degli alloggi e uso di spazi intermedi. L’obiettivo è definire un modello abitativo sostenibile, accessibile e radicato nel contesto, capace di coniugare comfort ambientale, qualità dello spazio urbano e responsabilità sociale dell’architettura.
