Nature-Based Interventions (NBIs) are receiving increasing attention for their psychophysical benefits. This type of intervention, which includes activities such as exposure to green spaces, forest bathing, and mindfulness in natural settings, is grounded in the interaction between individuals and nature. The scientific literature shows that they are associated with stress reduction, improvements in psychological well-being, and the promotion of physical health. They are therefore particularly relevant for the prevention and management of metabolic syndrome, a condition characterized by a cluster of risk factors such as abdominal obesity, hypertension, and insulin resistance, which represents a significant global public health issue. This thesis explores the role of nature-based interventions in promoting psychophysical health and preventing metabolic syndrome. It presents and describes the RESONATE project, a structured intervention that integrates slow walking activities in nature within urban parks in Padua with mindfulness practices. The results show an increase in nature connectedness and a significant reduction in negative emotions. Overall, nature-based interventions appear to be sustainable strategies for promoting both mental and physical health.
Gli Interventi basati sulla natura (NBIs) stanno ricevendo una crescente attenzione per i loro benefici psicofisici. Questa tipologia di interventi, che includono attività come il contatto con spazi verdi, il forest bathing e la mindfulness in contesti naturali, si fondano sull’interazione tra individuo e natura e la letteratura scientifica dimostra che sono associati alla riduzione dello stress, al miglioramento del benessere psicologico e alla promozione della salute fisica. Risultano quindi particolarmente rilevanti per la prevenzione e la gestione della sindrome metabolica, una condizione caratterizzata da una serie di fattori di rischio quali obesità addominale, ipertensione e insulino-resistenza, che rappresenta una significativa problematica di salute pubblica a livello globale. La presente tesi esplora il ruolo degli interventi basati sulla natura nella promozione della salute psicofisica e nella prevenzione della sindrome metabolica. Viene presentato e illustrato il progetto RESONATE, un intervento strutturato che integra attività di camminata lenta in natura nei parchi urbani di Padova e pratiche di mindfulness. I risultati mostrano un aumento della connessione con la natura e una significativa riduzione delle emozioni negative. Nel complesso, gli interventi basati sulla natura risultano essere strategie sostenibili per la promozione della salute mentale e fisica.
