L'equilibrio tra le funzioni di Ph. K. Bock nel processo terapeutico: uno studio qualitativo

In this thesis, transcripts of three sessions of psychoanalytically oriented group psychotherapy are analyzed with the aim of exploring the concept of “good group functioning” and understanding the ways in which it manifests within the therapeutic process. In the functional model developed by Ph. K. Bock (1979), three fundamental functions are always present within every group: the executive function, the expressive function, and the control function. This is the main theoretical framework adopted in the study. In small groups, these functions are constantly co-present and interdependent, although, depending on different moments of the therapeutic process, one may temporarily prevail over the others. To analyze this phenomenon, the transcripts were segmented into sequences using an operational tool that integrates Braun and Clarke’s (2012) Reflexive Thematic Analysis with Bozzi’s (1978) Interobservation method. Good group functioning is conceived as the group’s ability to maintain sufficient dynamism among the functions, without becoming rigidly fixed in only one of them. The analytical method adopted thus serves as a useful tool for observing and understanding the movements of the group process, the emerging themes, and the transformations they undergo throughout the progression of the sessions.

In questa tesi vengono analizzati i trascritti di tre sedute di psicoterapia di gruppo ad orientamento psicoanalitico con l’obiettivo di approfondire il concetto di “buon funzionamento gruppale” e di comprendere le modalità attraverso cui esso si manifesta nel processo terapeutico. Nel modello funzionalista elaborato da Ph. K. Bock (1979) all’interno di ogni gruppo sono sempre presenti tre funzioni fondamentali: la funzione esecutiva, la funzione espressiva e la funzione di controllo. Questo è il principale modello teorico a cui si fa riferimento. Nel piccolo gruppo, le funzioni citate risultano costantemente compresenti e interdipendenti, anche se, a seconda dei diversi momenti del processo terapeutico, una può prevalere temporaneamente sulle altre. Per analizzare questo fenomeno è stato necessario suddividere i trascritti in sequenze utilizzando uno strumento operativo che integra l’Analisi Tematica Riflessiva di Braun e Clarke (2012) con il metodo dell’Interosservazione di Bozzi (1978). Il buon funzionamento del gruppo è concepito come la capacità del gruppo di mantenere una sufficiente dinamicità tra le funzioni, senza irrigidirsi stabilmente in una sola. Il metodo di analisi adottato si configura come uno strumento utile per osservare e comprendere i movimenti del processo gruppale, i temi emergenti e le trasformazioni che questi attraversano nel corso del procedere delle sedute.
