In recent years the research in quantum computing and quantum communication technologies have made significant advancements towards large-scale practical implementation. Despite these improvements, the high manufacturing costs and the physical limitations of the technologies at our disposal remain major obstacles for experimental research. Therefore many institutions have developed simulation platforms capable of modeling quantum communications networks and their protocols. In this thesis we analyze prominent examples of these simulators, such as NetSquid, NetQASM, SquidASM, SimulaQron, QKDNetSim+ and SeQUeNCe, focusing on their architectures, functionalities and limitations, and also discussing their possible future development and practical applications.

Abstract
In recent years the research in quantum computing and quantum communication technologies have made significant advancements towards large-scale practical implementation. Despite these improvements, the high manufacturing costs and the physical limitations of the technologies at our disposal remain major obstacles for experimental research. Therefore many institutions have developed simulation platforms capable of modeling quantum communications networks and their protocols. In this thesis we analyze prominent examples of these simulators, such as NetSquid, NetQASM, SquidASM, SimulaQron, QKDNetSim+ and SeQUeNCe, focusing on their architectures, functionalities and limitations, and also discussing their possible future development and practical applications.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
