The internship experience described in this Final Report was carried out at I.M.G. S.p.A., located in Riese Pio X (TV), a company operating in the mechanical engineering sector and specialized in the design and production of cylindrical metal components. The project focused on the verification and improvement of the carbon potential measurement system in pit furnaces used for carburizing heat treatments. Carbon potential is a key parameter for the control of thermo-chemical processes, as it directly influences carbon diffusion into materials and, consequently, their mechanical and metallurgical properties. The activity involved comparing the carbon potential values measured by the in-furnace oxygen probe with those obtained from an external CO/CO₂ analyzer during multiple production cycles. After implementing some system modifications, an extended test was conducted over two carburizing cycles to assess the accuracy and reliability of the measurement system. The results led to an optimization of carbon potential control, reducing the risk of non-conformities and improving the final quality of the treated components. Furthermore, the work provides a solid foundation for the future standardization of calibration and control procedures for oxygen probes in industrial furnaces.

Abstract
Furthermore, the work provides a solid foundation for the future standardization of calibration and control procedures for oxygen probes in industrial furnaces.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
