This paper describes the design and development of a fully modular digital audio synthesizer. The system is architected to support multiple algorithmic configurations (additive, subtractive, FM, and wavetable synthesis) and various control interfaces independently of each other. The architecture is based on a clear separation between the control layer and the audio engine, allowing for flexibility in choosing hardware components and facilitating the implementation of new features. The project uses two ESP32-S3 microcontrollers coordinated via standardized (MIDI) and proprietary protocols, implemented on the ESP-IDF platform with FreeRTOS support. The audio engine processes the audio signal in real time, generating waveforms, applying envelopes, filters, and effects, with analog output via a PCM5102A DAC. The primary goal is to provide a modular and scalable foundation that allows for future upgrades while maintaining compatibility with the existing architecture.

Abstract
The primary goal is to provide a modular and scalable foundation that allows for future upgrades while maintaining compatibility with the existing architecture.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
