Emancipation as a Pathway to Tackling Gender-Based Violence: The Cases of Brazil and Italy

John Galtung’s Peace Studies and Ken Booth’s Critical Security Theory feature a complementary overlap when discussing emancipation as a project for long lasting peace and a better understanding of how social-political-economic violence is produced. Combined with Feminist Studies, this research debates on the different mechanisms available for women and girls that suffer from gender violence and provides a reflection on the contradictions that shape the current data through a theoretical debate on emancipation and the impacts of the triangle of violence in women and girls. By choosing Brazil and Italy as case study, two different countries from two different continents but with socio-cultural similarities, the research aims to break down the international and national contexts in which each policy has been created, describing what were their achievements and what are the current gaps that denounces the dialectical work of emancipation in building better mechanisms.
