This thesis focuses on the analysis and translation of a technical-industrial text, specifically an instruction manual for the use of a machine designed for welding rings. The work falls within the field of specialized Italian-Spanish translation and aims primarily to study the impact of linguistic simplification and artificial intelligence (AI) on technical translation, as well as to reflect on the fundamental role of human revision in machine translation processes. The research is structured into four chapters. The first chapter presents a textual and linguistic analysis of the original technical manual, with special attention to its lexical, morphosyntactic, and pragmatic features, which are characteristic of technical-industrial language. This analysis identifies the main elements of complexity in the manual’s wording and the potential difficulties in comprehension for the user. The second chapter focuses on simplifying the text by applying the principles of simplified technical Italian proposed by Ilaria Gobbi in her book "Italiano Tecnico Semplificato". The goal of this phase is to improve the clarity, accessibility, and communicative effectiveness of the manual, thereby making it easier for the operator responsible for using the machine to understand the instructions. The third chapter analyzes the machine translation into Spanish of the simplified text performed using artificial intelligence, specifically through ChatGPT. This part of the study examines the possibilities offered by AI tools in the field of specialized translation and evaluates the quality of the resulting translation. Finally, the fourth chapter addresses the process of post-editing and human revision of the translation generated by AI. Through the analysis of terminological, syntactic, and stylistic errors, the importance of the professional translator’s intervention in ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and appropriateness of the target text is demonstrated. The research shows that, although AI is a highly useful tool for technical translation, human supervision remains indispensable to ensure the final quality of the translation.
