Il grottesco: da decorazione ornamentale a categoria estetica ed esistenziale

The thesis is based on the study of the evolution of the term "grotesque" starting from its origins as an ancient decorative wall element, which, through its revival over the centuries by various artists, came to connote an aesthetic of the symbol, leading to the analysis of the twentieth-century movement of Symbolism and its main exponents.

La tesi si basa sullo studio dell’evoluzione del termine “grottesco” a partire dalla sua origine come antico elemento decorativo parietale, il quale attraverso la sua ripresa nei secoli da parte di svariati artisti arriva a connotare un’estetica del simbolo per cui si arriva all’analisi del movimento novecentesco del Simbolismo e dei suoi principali esponenti.
