This thesis examines the figure of Antonio Ligabue and the 1984 retrospective exhibition in Cencenighe Agordino, with the aim of highlighting its historical, artistic, and territorial significance. After reconstructing the artist’s biographical profile and artistic development, the study focuses on the organization, cultural context, and critical reception of the exhibition, a significant event for the promotion of both the artist and the Agordino area. It then analyzes a selection of works—drawings, engravings, sculptures, and paintings—in order to explore the central themes of his production. The thesis demonstrates how Ligabue’s art, deeply rooted in his personal experience, transforms hardship and suffering into an original visual language, contributing to the cultural recognition of an artist now considered among the most significant figures of twentieth-century Italian art.
