L’EVOLUZIONE DEL RUOLO FEMMINILE NEL LAVORO DOMESTICO: CONFRONTO TRA TRE GENERAZIONI

This thesis examines the evolution of women’s role in domestic work and its reconciliation with paid employment, in light of the social transformations that have taken place over time. The aim is to understand how the perception and experience of the domestic sphere have changed, by comparing the experiences of women from three different generations. The research adopts a qualitative approach, based on six semi-structured interviews, two for each generation. The analysis focuses on four main dimensions: the organization of domestic work within the family of origin, the relationship between domestic and paid work, social expectations related to the female role, and future perspectives regarding the division of domestic tasks. The findings highlight a trend toward greater equality, although still influenced by tradition and gender stereotypes. This research seeks to make visible this often invisible work, emphasizing its central role and the inequalities that still persist.

Questa tesi analizza l’evoluzione del ruolo della donna nel lavoro domestico e la sua conciliazione con il lavoro retribuito, alla luce delle trasformazioni sociali avvenute nel corso del tempo. L’obiettivo è comprendere come la percezione e l’esperienza della sfera domestica siano cambiate nel corso del tempo, mettendo a confronto l’esperienza di donne provenienti da tre generazioni diverse. La ricerca utilizza un approccio qualitativo, basato su sei interviste semi-strutturate, due per ciascuna generazione. L’analisi si concentra su quattro dimensioni principali: l’organizzazione del lavoro domestico nella famiglia di origine, il rapporto tra lavoro domestico e lavoro retribuito, le aspettative sociali legate al ruolo femminile e le prospettive future rispetto alla divisione dei compiti domestici. I risultati evidenziano un andamento di apertura verso una maggiore uguaglianza ma ancora influenzati dalla tradizione e dagli stereotipi di genere. Con questa ricerca si vuole rendere visibile questo lavoro spesso invisibile, sottolineandone il ruolo centrale e le disuguaglianze ancora presenti.
