This study analyzes the characteristics of political communication among Italian neo-municipalist civic lists, with a particular focus on the relationship between their movement origins, organizational practices, and communication strategies. Starting from a theoretical framework that integrates studies on movement-based parties, theories of political participation, and the literature on contemporary political communication, the research focuses on three case studies—Coalizione Civica per Bologna, Coalizione Civica per Padova, and Sinistra Ecologista Torino—selected as representative examples of the Italian neo-municipalist phenomenon. The research adopts a qualitative approach based on semi-structured interviews with six representatives of the lists, analyzed through a cross-cutting thematic analysis. The analysis shows how these lists share origins rooted in civil society organizations and social movements, which translates into a horizontal and participatory organizational culture perceived not as a mere tool, but as a foundational element of political identity. This culture has a concrete impact on communication choices: a language that rejects populist simplification, communication understood as an account of political action rather than image-building, and a structural preference for in-person interactions over digital mediation. At the same time, the results highlight the internal tensions within the model: the slow decision-making process resulting from internal democracy, the difficulty of expanding the audience beyond the already politicized circle, and the challenge of maintaining systematic communication with limited resources. The study suggests that these civic lists represent a unique laboratory for political practice.

Abstract
The study suggests that these civic lists represent a unique laboratory for political practice.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
