This thesis investigates the role of music in the cognitive and perceptual processes involved in brand communication, with the aim of exploring how sound influences the effectiveness of advertising messages and consumers’ emotional responses. The research begins with an analysis of the neuroscientific foundations of musical perception, examining the relationship between auditory stimuli, memory, and emotional engagement. The study then focuses on the importance of hearing within sensory marketing and on how sound can influence the consumer’s purchasing decision-making process. Furthermore, it provides an overview of how some renowned “Made in Italy” brands (specifically Barilla, Algida, and Enel, which are the focus of this thesis) communicate their values through Italian music, strengthening the identity-based relationship between brand and nation. The core of the research consists of an experimental investigation conducted on a sample of 189 participants, focusing on the case study of Enel. Through a survey designed to compare the perception of the brand’s advertisement in versions with and without musical support, quantitative data were collected regarding message clarity and emotional impact. The preliminary results highlight that the presence of music represents a key factor in improving content comprehension and in building an empathic connection with the brand. In conclusion, this thesis demonstrates that, for a complex and potentially divisive institutional brand such as Enel, the selection of music consistent with the visual message represents a strategic resource for humanising brand identity and effectively communicating values such as sustainability and innovation.

Abstract
In conclusion, this thesis demonstrates that, for a complex and potentially divisive institutional brand such as Enel, the selection of music consistent with the visual message represents a strategic resource for humanising brand identity and effectively communicating values such as sustainability and innovation.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
