This project aims to examine the communicative strategies underlying modern television quiz shows, adopting an analytical perspective on the media competition between the two most popular Italian quiz shows of the moment: La Ruota della Fortuna and Affari Tuoi. By retracing the history of the two formats, observing their changes over time, and analyzing their core elements as well as the cognitive processes they activate in viewers, the study seeks to compare the strengths of both programs and the communicative skills of their hosts. The objective of the research is to investigate the factors that have made these quiz shows true cult phenomena in Italian culture, capable of leaving lasting traces in viewers’ memories, and, through a comparative analysis of the observations made, to explore the possibility of predicting which program may prevail in the competition for access prime-time ratings.
