Tra storia e narrazione: la rappresentazione del passato nella serie televisiva L’Imperatrice

The thesis analyses the relationship between history and audiovisual narration through the study of the television series The Empress (L’Imperatrice), distributed by the streaming platform Netflix. After a theoretical reflection on the role of history in contemporary media and on the evolution of television seriality, the work examines the historical figure of Elisabeth of Austria, comparing historical reality with her representation in the series. Through a methodological analysis of the audiovisual product, the research highlights how contemporary historical series reinterpret the past according to narrative, aesthetic, and cultural needs linked to contemporaneity, contributing to the construction of collective imagination and historical memory.

La tesi analizza il rapporto tra storia e narrazione audiovisiva attraverso lo studio della serie televisiva L’Imperatrice (The Empress), distribuita dalla piattaforma Netflix. Dopo una riflessione teorica sul ruolo della storia nei media contemporanei e sull’evoluzione della serialità televisiva, il lavoro approfondisce la figura storica di Elisabetta d’Austria, confrontando la realtà storica con la sua rappresentazione nella serie. Attraverso un’analisi metodologica del prodotto audiovisivo, la ricerca evidenzia come le serie storiche contemporanee reinterpretino il passato secondo esigenze narrative, estetiche e culturali legate alla contemporaneità, contribuendo alla costruzione dell’immaginario collettivo e della memoria storica.
