This thesis investigates how skincare is represented in digital media, with a particular focus on contents shared on Instagram. With growing interest in skincare as a daily and shared practice, the work explores how this field today is positioned at the intersection of aesthetics and scientific discourses, contributing to the construction of new meanings related to the body and its care. The thesis is situated within the literature on medicalization and biomedicalization, examining the diffusion of technical and scientific language, prevention practices, and expert knowledge as part of a broader transformation affecting the daily management of the body. Within this theoretical framework, skincare is interpreted not only as an aesthetic practice, but as a context where forms of control, improvement, and individual responsibility emerge. Methodologically, the research adopts a digital ethnography approach, focusing on the analysis of visual and textual content created on Instagram. Through observation and analysis of posts by selected content creators active in the skincare sector, the study focuses on identifying the main communication frames and the ways in which the discourse on skin, products, and care practices is constructed. The analysis highlights how skincare is represented through different communication registers that combine aesthetic, scientific, and relational dimensions. The analyzed content contributes to disseminating cultural models in which skincare takes on an increasingly structured and informed meaning, emerging as an informed, ongoing practice aimed at improving the body.
