This thesis analyzes the sociolinguistic characteristics of the Taimyr Russian Pidgin, also known as 'Govorka'. This linguistic situation developed in the Taimyr Peninsula (Northern Siberia) as a means of communication between indigenous populations (Nganasan, Enets, Dolgan) and Russian-speaking settlers and traders between the 18th and 20th centuries. The focus of my research is to study the role of Russian as a lexifier language, while identifying the morphological and syntactic reductions and simplifications typical of pidginization processes. First, the thesis establishes a theoretical framework regarding the construction of pidgins in general terms (discussing the differences with creoles); it then explores the historical background of the emergence and settlement of the Taimyr populations; and finally, it provides a linguistic analysis of the features that make this pidgin so unique.Drawing on various studies, the thesis also examines the 'Enigma' of this pidgin and the decline of 'Govorka' during the 20th century. This decline, caused by mass schooling and the spread of Standard Russian, has transformed the pidgin into an endangered language.

Abstract
This decline, caused by mass schooling and the spread of Standard Russian, has transformed the pidgin into an endangered language.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
