Il concetto di Grammatica Universale in Noam Chomsky: genesi e sviluppi di una teoria linguistica.

From the publication of Syntactic Structures (1957) to the writings about the minimalist program at the end of the twentieth century, the reflections of Noam Chomsky have shaped contemporary research on the cognitive and formal study of natural languages. Focusing on the Chomskyan program, the present thesis aims to investigate the fundamental stages of the Chomskyan Revolution from both a historical and a theoretical perspective, with the goal of contextualizing the origins and subsequent developments of the central concept of Universal Grammar (UG). After reconstructing the historical and philosophical genesis of the epistemological paradigm of Internal-Language, from early modern rationalism to mature structuralism the study examines the long and ongoing process that led Chomsky to formulate the Theory of Transformational Universal Generative Grammar, while also presenting some of its most significant aspects in reception.

Dalla pubblicazione di Syntactic Structures (1957) fino agli scritti sul programma mini- malista di fine XX secolo, le profonde riflessioni di Noam Chomsky segnano le ricerche contemporanee sullo studio cognitivo e formale delle lingue storico-naturali. Concentrando l’attenzione sul programma chomskiano, il presente elaborato si propone di indagare le tappe fondamentali della Rivoluzione Chomskiana sia in prospettiva storica sia in prospettiva teorica, nel desiderio di contestualizzare le origini e gli sviluppi ulteriori del concetto fondamentale di Grammatica Universale (GU). Dopo aver ricostruito la genesi storico-filosofica del paradigma epistemologico Lingua-Interna dal razionalismo moderno fino al pieno strutturalismo, la trattazione indaga il lungo processo in divenire costante che portò Chomsky all’elaborazione della Teoria della Grammatica Generativa Universale Trasformazionale, presentandone inoltre alcuni aspetti ricettivi salienti.
