The thesis aims to analyze the phenomenon of Medievalism, investigating its origins and transformations, from its ancient mythical roots to the threshold of the new millennium, through the concept of ‘survival of the ancient’, taken up by Warburg, examining how the medieval imagination never stopped, but constantly reinvented itself. The journey passes through the four fundamental stages of this survival: the ancient origins of what have become the cycles of chivalry, the best-known cycles and their evolution, the ideological and political use with the exploitation of the Middle Ages during the nationalisms of the twentieth century, and, finally, the modern visual cultural, in which the Middle Ages are revived through cinema, TV series, and video games. The work culminates in a focus on the production company DreamWorks, which examines the concept of overturning classical canons, deconstructing the structure of the traditional fairy tale to arrive at the anti-fairy tale: through irony and parody, medievalism DreamWorks transforms historical tropes into a critical and playful mirror of today's society.

Abstract
The work culminates in a focus on the production company DreamWorks, which examines the concept of overturning classical canons, deconstructing the structure of the traditional fairy tale to arrive at the anti-fairy tale: through irony and parody, medievalism DreamWorks transforms historical tropes into a critical and playful mirror of today's society.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
