La rivalutazione della figura della Malinche nella scrittura di Laura Esquivel

This thesis analyzes the revaluation of La Malinche in Laura Esquivel’s novel Malinche, through a comparison between the representation proposed by the author and those transmitted through the chronicles of the conquest and later interpretations. Traditionally regarded as a symbol of betrayal, La Malinche has long been associated with a negative image in Mexican culture and identity. The aim of this thesis is to show how Laura Esquivel’s novel contributes to a revaluation of La Malinche by offering a more complex and human portrayal than that found in previous historical and cultural traditions.

La presente tesi analizza la rivalutazione della figura della Malinche nell’opera Malinche di Laura Esquivel, attraverso un confronto tra la rappresentazione proposta dall’autrice e quella tramandata dalle cronache della conquista e da interpretazioni postume. Tradizionalmente considerata simbolo di tradimento, la Malinche è stata a lungo associata a un’immagine negativa nella cultura e nell’identità messicana. L’obiettivo della tesi è mostrare come il romanzo di Laura Esquivel contribuisca a una rivalutazione della figura della Malinche, proponendo una visione più complessa e umana rispetto alla tradizione storica e culturale precedente.
