This thesis analyzes the female representation in commedia dell’arte through the study of female roles and characters in the collection of scenarios Il teatro delle favole rappresentative (1611, Venice) by Flaminio Scala. The objective is to identify the models of representation present in the collection, as well as the patterns of character behavior and interaction associated with each representational model. The research methodology is based on a dual approach, combining quantitative and qualitative methods. The analysis of the scenarios collected by Scala, in fact, adopts an analytical-interpretative perspective, comparing the collected data in light of pre-existing literary and theatrical models, as well as the socio-cultural context of Italy between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The analysis reveals various female character typologies, defined by their roles, dramaturgical function, distinctive traits in character construction, and patterns of interaction and behavior. In particular, the role of the actress Isabella Andreini emerges in contributing to the creation of the collection, as does the connection between the capocomica and the character of the innamorata Isabella, who prevails as a typological figure both honoured and documented in Scala’s collection. Through this analysis, the thesis contributes to the reconstruction of the trajectory of women actresses within the long process that led to the formation of female performative authorship in commedia dell’arte.

Abstract
Through this analysis, the thesis contributes to the reconstruction of the trajectory of women actresses within the long process that led to the formation of female performative authorship in commedia dell’arte.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
