This thesis examines the role of Segment Reporting as a tool for supporting business decision-making, both in relation to managers' strategic decisions and the information needs of external investors. In today's economic environment, aggregated financial statements are often insufficient to provide a comprehensive representation of the economic performance of different business segments. From this perspective, Segment Reporting plays a fundamental role by providing more detailed and relevant information. The thesis is divided into two main parts. The first presents the internship experience carried out in the administrative department of Naturis S.p.A., a company operating in the food industry, specializing in the processing of cereals and legumes and primarily serving the Business-to-Business (B2B) market. It then analyzes the competitive environment in which the company operates through the application of Porter's Five Forces model. The second part examines the regulatory evolution of Segment Reporting, with particular reference to the International Financial Reporting Standards and the introduction of the Management Approach. Through a review of the academic literature, the study highlights the main benefits and incentives associated with the adoption of this approach. Finally, the thesis discusses the limitations of the Management Approach, focusing on the potential misalignment between the internal use of information by management and the information needs of external investors. In conclusion, Segment Reporting is confirmed as a fundamental tool for supporting business decision-making and enhancing financial reporting transparency, particularly when its application is supported by a rigorous and effective regulatory framework.
