This thesis analyzes the Formula One World Championship as an economic market characterized by an oligopolistic structure and a high degree of regulation. The aim of the study is to examine the main competitive dynamics among teams, with particular attention to the role of barriers to entry, the strategies adopted by market participants, and the economic agreements governing the functioning of the championship. The analysis is developed using the tools of industrial economics and competition law, highlighting how the presence of high costs, cumulative technological advantages, and institutional mechanisms affects market contestability. In this context, competition among teams is combined with forms of coordination necessary for the functioning of the system, giving rise to a balance between competition and cooperation. Finally, the examination of relevant cases makes it possible to assess the antitrust implications of these dynamics, showing how the specific features of the sports sector influence the application of competition rules. Overall, Formula 1 emerges as an example of a complex and regulated market in which economic and sporting logics are closely interconnected.
