This thesis work aims to analyze the syntactic evolution of Italian in the Renaissance era through the study of the corpus of "Letters" by Michelangelo Buonarroti. These letters offer, in fact, an exemplary representation of a living and spontaneous sixteenth-century language, ideal for observing the transition dynamics and the changes taking place in the prose of the Renaissance. The analysis focuses, specifically, on two phenomena: in the first place, the process of grammaticalization of the verb "need", analyzing its transition from the original regular transitive verb to a construct with a modal value. Secondly, the research addresses the position of clitic pronouns according to the verb, an aspect of Michelangelo's language characterised by a remarkable fluidity that allows the alternation between proclitic and enclitic solutions. Through the analysis of the data offered by the Michelangelo corpus, the work aims to map the frequency and coexistence of these structures, providing a contribution to the understanding of the mechanisms of linguistic change and the establishment of the syntactic norm in the framework of Renaissance Italian.

Abstract
Through the analysis of the data offered by the Michelangelo corpus, the work aims to map the frequency and coexistence of these structures, providing a contribution to the understanding of the mechanisms of linguistic change and the establishment of the syntactic norm in the framework of Renaissance Italian.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
