This thesis analyses strategies for teaching and learning Spanish as a Foreign Language in childhood, with particular attention to the use of the dictionary. The study is based on the importance of early foreign language learning and on the need to employ methodologies suited to the cognitive and communicative characteristics of school-age children. The first chapter examines the main stages of children’s linguistic development and the most relevant theories of language acquisition, leading to current trends such as the communicative approach, the use of technological resources, and playful and multisensory methodologies. The second chapter focuses on the dictionary as a pedagogical resource in early childhood and primary education, describing teaching strategies and highlighting its benefits. The third chapter presents a didactic proposal aimed at children between the ages of 6 and 10, through materials and activities adapted to different ages and proficiency levels. It emphasizes that a guided and contextualized use of the dictionary can become an effective tool not only for promoting language learning, but also for stimulating curiosity and fostering learner autonomy from the earliest stages of education.
