Starting from the 18050s, feudal Japan went through a major political and social crisis. Within twenty years, Japan was able to dismantle the structures which disciplined society for more than two centuries leading to a long phase of economic growth. The main actor in this process, according to the historiographic literature, were zaibatsus, enormous industrial family-run conglomerates. I will look at the zaibatsu phenomen in its whole, starting from its origins until their dissolution by the American occupation government. Nevertheless, I won't stop my analysis here. Indeed, I would like to go even further, describing the evolution from zaibatsu to keiretsu. The main goal of the thesis is to analyze one of the main factors in the japanese economic growth between XIX and XX century.

Abstract
The main goal of the thesis is to analyze one of the main factors in the japanese economic growth between XIX and XX century.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
