This paper aims to explore the connection between generative artificial intelligence and worker well-being, with a particular focus on cognitive effects. As is well known, the spread of GenAI is transforming work practices, supporting activities such as content production, information management, task monitoring, and decision-making processes. However, alongside the benefits in terms of efficiency and operational support, some critical issues related to emotional, social, and cognitive dimensions also emerge. Particular attention will be paid to the role of "critical thinking," analyzing how excessive reliance on intelligent machines can impact cognitive effort, self-evaluation, and the worker's ability to verify, integrate, and question AI-generated responses. The selected articles demonstrate that AI can be an important resource for work, but that an excessively passive use of the tool risks reducing the worker's active involvement in evaluation and decision-making processes. Specifically, the paper aims to highlight that the problem lies not simply in the use of AI, but rather in the risk of it shifting from a support tool to a sort of "autopilot," limiting the exercise of critical thinking, decision-making autonomy, and the worker's ability to maintain an active role in developing and evaluating solutions. The paper concludes with a reflection on possible areas of prevention and intervention.

Abstract
The paper concludes with a reflection on possible areas of prevention and intervention.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
