This paper addresses the issue of a child's suitability to testify in the legal field, exploring the psychological foundations that influence its accuracy and the tools available for its evaluation. The first chapter analyses the concept of testimonial suitability and infantile suggestibility, examining their underlying psychological mechanisms and contextual factors that can compromise their accuracy. The second chapter compares the two main structured forensic interview protocols, the NICHD Protocol and the Step-Wise Interview, highlighting their strengths, limitations, and degree of empirical validation. The third chapter examines complementary psychometric assessment tools such as the Statement Validity Assessment (SVA/CBCA), suggestibility scales (GSS and BTSS), and Wechsler cognitive scales (WISC-V, WPPSI-IV), discussing their applicability and critical issues in the forensic field. The paper concludes that the child's suitability is not a fixed characteristic, but the outcome of a process that depends on the quality of the listening and evaluation procedures adopted, emphasizing the need for adequate training of operators and a more systematic application of validated protocols, especially in the Italian context.

Abstract
The paper concludes that the child's suitability is not a fixed characteristic, but the outcome of a process that depends on the quality of the listening and evaluation procedures adopted, emphasizing the need for adequate training of operators and a more systematic application of validated protocols, especially in the Italian context.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
