This thesis addresses the analysis and optimization of the Thermal Control Subsystem (TCS) for the lander of the PERSEIDE space mission, developed within the Space Systems Laboratory. The main objective is to demonstrate the technical feasibility of the lander remaining on the lunar surface for a period of ten days, ensuring the operation of the various subsystems within the design constraints. In the first phase of the work, after analyzing the mission characteristics, the sizing of the lander's batteries and telecommunication system was performed, defining the characteristics of the primary lithium batteries (Li/CFx-MnO2) and the UHF-band TT&C system. The results of this phase provided the basis for the subsequent numerical modeling. Through the use of the SYSTEMA simulation software, the steady-state thermal balance (conductive and radiative) of the lander was developed, integrating into the TCS modeling the selection of surface coatings suitable for the harsh conditions of the lunar environment. The results confirmed the effectiveness of a passive thermal control approach, demonstrating how it is possible to achieve an equilibrium state between external thermal fluxes (direct solar, albedo, and lunar infrared) and internal heat dissipations, allowing the various substructures to operate within their respective temperature ranges, and laying a methodological foundation for potential future studies.
