This thesis investigates vortex-induced vibrations (VIV) on an elastically mounted rigid cylinder through 2D CFD simulations, modelled as a single-degree-of-freedom mass-spring-damper oscillator. The study characterizes the system's dynamic response as a function of density ratio, non-dimensional stiffness, damping ratio, and blockage ratio, identifying the lock-in conditions between vortex shedding and the natural frequency. Power output and conversion efficiency are also evaluated, providing a useful database for the design of VIV-based energy harvesting devices.

Abstract
This thesis investigates vortex-induced vibrations (VIV) on an elastically mounted rigid cylinder through 2D CFD simulations, modelled as a single-degree-of-freedom mass-spring-damper oscillator. The study characterizes the system's dynamic response as a function of density ratio, non-dimensional stiffness, damping ratio, and blockage ratio, identifying the lock-in conditions between vortex shedding and the natural frequency. Power output and conversion efficiency are also evaluated, providing a useful database for the design of VIV-based energy harvesting devices.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
